Robert B. Mellor

Dr Robert B. Mellor has 30 years research experience and over 25 years university teaching experience. He obtained his training at the Universities of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Bradford and Dundee. During this time he was British Council Fellow to the University of Helsinki (1979) and Germany (1981). He Joined the University staff of the University of Marburg an den Lahn in Feb. 1982 and was a Visiting Research Fellow to Copenhagen in 1984. In 1987 he was called to a professorial group leader position in Basel, Switzerland, which he later combined with a Directorship of a West German technical company, being incidentally awarded an MBA-equivalent from Gottingen in 1991. In 1997 he received his habilitation (Doctor of Science) degree from the Royal University of Copenhagen (where he was Visiting Professor) and in early 2000 he joined the IT University of Copenhagen/Copenhagen Business School. Since Jan. 2005 he has a senior position at the University of Kingston, London.

He has been supervisor for more than 30 research Masters and Doctoral students and is external examiner at the Universities of Basel (Switzerland), Geneva (Switzerland), Marburg a.d. Lahn (Germany), Knoxville (USA), North East Hill (India), Irapuato (Mexico), University of the West Indies (Trinidad), Westminster (UK) and the IT University of Copenhagen. He is cross-faculty Independent Chair for PhD examinations at Kingston University.

He has published more than 120 peer-refereed journal and conference papers, mostly in leading journals including Nature and has a average personal "impact factor" of over 20. He is author of 9 books, 2 of which have been translated into foreign languages. He is reviewer for 5 well-known international journals, has served on numerous technical and strategic committees and functions as invited speaker in national and international conferences. He also sits on the grant reviewing panels for several national (USA, Israel, Germany, Switzerland etc) and international (e.g. EU) granting agencies. He has led major BPR projects in the public and private sectors as well as serving as an active expert consultant at Ministerial level for over 10 years.

He is recipient, investigator and co-investigator of research grants from the EU, EMBO, British Council, Swiss National Science Foundation, the German National Science Foundation, the German Ministry of Science, the Danish National Science Foundation and several other bodies. His solo applications alone amount to 1 million Euro granting. Robert B. Mellor has been nominated for, and won, 10 prizes including the Engineers Association Award (2003), The Entrepreneurship Prize (2003) and the Enterprise Medal (2004).

He has been listed in "Whos Who" since 1998 and speaks 4 languages.
